Things I like about America: Part 1

So its the end of the semester and four months since I have come to America. And there are things I find interesting!

here are a few:

1. In America, aeroplanes can create clouds!

This is perhaps one of the first things I liked about this place. At any time during the day when you look upto the skies, you can find one or more airplanes heading somewhere leaving behind a trail of clouds!

I dont know what phenomenon this is, too lazy to read it up. Perhaps the air is so cold at that altitude, and the pressure created by the moving plane condenses the moisture into ice? huh?  bah …. http://www.google.com … and I was correct, well more or less. Interesting.

2. Google Maps

The sense of independence with GMaps on an E71x. Go anywhere, when you want and alone if you want. Absolutely a must have for any new person comming to US.

Cant think of more, this post has been in draft for a long time, so sending it out 🙂

Push Mechanisms

(*Tags the post as Personal, Thoughts*)

Is it possible to share with someone your thoughts and feelings with a touch?

How different would things be if you could just touch someone with your finger and upload all that you had to say.

I am illogical. I like to believe in energy transfer. We all are made of an indescribable energy. If you put in enough human energy, anything is possible. Yes, I think you can heat a glass of water by just looking at it.  The trouble is the the water won’t heat up on its own or just because you want it to.

Go all the way. Never Give up.

If you are going to try, go all the way.
Otherwise don’t even start.
This could mean losing girlfriends, wives,
relatives, jobs and maybe your mind.
It could mean not eating for 3 or 4 days.
It could mean freezing on the park bench.
It could mean jail.
It could mean derision.
It could mean mockery, isolation.
Isolation is the gift.
All the others are a test of your endurance,
of how much you really want to do it.
And you’ll do it.
Despite rejection and worst odds
and it will be better than anything else you can imagine.
If you’re going to try, go all the way.
There is no other feeling like that.
You will be alone with the gods.
And the nights will flame with fire.
You will ride life straight to perfect laughter,
it’s the only good fight there is.

The Encounter

I have a sketchy memory of the incident but this is what I remember.

I was finally on my way back home to Jamnagar, Gujarat. On the train, it was not like last time (:D) Only some boring old people. Happily holding on to their newly issues blankets and white sheets and eagerly checking and shouting out if they had a faintest stain. Come Baroda station and at the adjacent local compartment, there was a sight to see. Not less than 40 young gujarati businessmen, trying to get in through the poor door. I wondered how would a lady passenger board that compartment.

I washed my face and then suddenly a young lady dashed into the compartment. Read More…

The Highwayman (Alfred Noyes) 1906

I came across a video tribute to Hayao MiyazakiMemories Dance“, the Japanese animation legend, by his studio Ghibli. The video featured a song by Loreena McKennitt “The Mummer’s Dance”. I loved the video and the song. It transported me to a land far away of mountains, trees and of virgin streams. I checked out other songs from Loreena’s album The Book of Secrets. A song particularly caught my eye. it was titled “The Highwayman”

A quick search led me to the original poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes,1906 on WikiSource.

“The Highwayman” is a narrative poem by Alfred Noyes, published in 1906. The poem was written when Noyes was a young man, and brought him immediate and long-lasting success. It tells the story of a nameless highwayman who is in love with an innkeeper’s beautiful daughter named Bess. Tim, the insanely jealous hostler (stableman) betrays the highwayman to the authorities; an action which paves the way for the brutal death of the lovers.

I listened to the audio narration of the poem. It was spellbinding. Absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend the narration by David Shaw Parker and the female voice on WikiSource page. My favourite stanzas of the poem

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas, Read More…

Excerpts from the article by CATHERINE RAMPELL on How It Does It: The RIAA Explains How It Catches Alleged Music Pirates

To catch college students trading copyrighted songs online, the Recording Industry Association of America uses the same file-sharing software that online pirates love, an RIAA representative told The Chronicle at the organization’s offices during a private demonstration of how it catches alleged music pirates. He also said the group does not single out specific colleges in its investigations.

The official explained that one way the RIAA identifies pirates is by using LimeWire, a popular Read More…

Does this happen with you?

  2. Save all your work and Restart your computer

Note: The Script Killer file might take a few minutes to run and might display error messages. Its normal. The file will not do any harm. If it helped or if it didnt, please drop in a comment! thanks!

Desert Rose – A poem by yours truly

Desert Rose

Oh my Desert Rose

i had walked past suns
looking for photon guns
i had walked through moons
looking for a something maroon
i dived into ocean depths
to find nothing but soon …

i dug into the desert
wandered on blistering sands
found a marooned rose
oblivious to the land
with arms as limp as whisps
withered, weak but a winner
in a desert with no conscience
violating the dead ambience

i picked you up and i got hurt
but i have also gained
life is not exempt from pain
and so will do so again

Oh my wild wild rose
You grow up from where nothing can grow

(Well this is my first attempt. This poem is a time from distant future. When mankind is reduced to warring tribes destroying each other, seeking new powers hidden beyond the frontier. The Man in the brute is in pain and seeks … something :S

Inspired form countless sci-fi movies “Star Wars” “Hitchhikers ..”, Shakespeares “The Tempest” , Bombay Rockers and Sting. dont laugh okay? criticism welcome!)
